Many of our customers have had the pleasure of meeting Carol Feller in person at her recent trunk show and book signing at A Good Yarn Sarasota. If you don’t live in the Sarasota area (or just couldn’t make it in), Carol’s latest online class through Craftsy.com is the next best thing, however!
If you’re new to the Craftsy platform, here’s what you can expect: each lesson is filmed with high-def cameras and can be paused and replayed as much as you like. Along the way, you can ask questions which your instructor or classmates will answer, creating a sense of community amongst your classmates. If you find a technique you like, you can take a video note enabling you to find it easily later on. As if that weren’t enough, once you register for a class or workshop, you have 24/7 access that never expires.
This brand-new class, Celtic Cables, will have you cabling like a pro in no time flat with Carol by your side every step of the way. This class is more than just cables, however. In each lesson, Carol dispenses sage advice for achieving the perfect fit for knitting a garment, using her Portulaca Cardigan as an example.
First, you’ll learn how to take accurate measurements and the ins and outs of swatching when preparing to knit a cabled garment. These initial lessons are lengthy and full of tidbits even longtime knitters will appreciate – for instance, how often do you replace your measuring tapes? As Carol notes, most measuring tapes are made of plastic, which can stretch over time, giving you inaccurate measurements. This is the kind of attention to detail you can expect throughout all 12 lessons in Celtic Cables.
Other lessons include various construction elements such as casting on, waist shaping, sleeves, joining for the yoke, collar shaping, button band and finishing, all with the overarching theme of modifying a garment to fit your exact measurements. The course materials include a worksheet to help you not only figure out what those measurements are, but the amount of ease that you should allow as well.
There is also an excellent bonus lesson on fixing your cables mistakes without having to completely rip back your work - sure to be required viewing for any cable enthusiast! After completing this course, any knitter will feel confident in their ability to knit and modify any pattern to suit their personal preference. They will also have a beautiful cabled cardigan to wear proudly!
